_RESEARCH We undertake a range of different kinds of research. Colour Material and Finish (CMF) is a way of harmonising existing products into a coherent line by changing the colour and finish without the expense of retooling. Full Line Identity Development is aimed at establishing directions which over a two or three year period can be used for the creation of a family of products. Information Technology Application focuses on finding new integrated HMI ( Human Machine Interface) solutions for the design of highly interactive "smart" products.
_SKETCHES We place a strong emphasis on the importance of freehand drawing to generate innovative ideas. Although the later design phase is a computerised 3D imaging and engineering process, we have found no real creative sustitute for the traditional pencil. The ability of an early thumbnail sketch to catch an idea or look, should never be underestimated. Often we'll return in a project to a single sketch as a point of reference.
_RENDERING & MODELS A choice of early design direction proposals are presented to the client. As 2 and 3D colour renderings. When possible, rapid 3D models are made in conjunction with 2D renderings. However, the trend has been to go as soon as possible from the 3D rendering into 3D stereolitograph prototypes. In this way the internal component layout can be "frozen" at an early stage, if it is not already decided.
_TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT In order to save time and help minimise later modifications, prior to tooling, 3D CAD drawings are used to generate at least two phases of rapid SL (stereolitograph) prototypes. The first SL prototype is used to get quotes from possible manufacturers. Based upon their offers, the SL is normally modified to reduce costs. One very important role of the experienced design company is to follow this process closely.
